"Ilden, Vandet, Jorden, Luften"
(Fire, Water, Earth, Air)
Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Faroese > German
"Fire, Water, Earth, Air" is a multilingual documentary about climate change in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the Faroe Islands.
What makes this film particularly unique is that each location and each language represents an element – fire, water, earth and air.
It portrays the reality of climate change in the Nordic region with breathtaking footage and a beautiful narrative, and explores how language impacts the way we perceive our world.
I had the pleasure to create the German subtitles for a Swiss film festival together with a dear colleague, so we could complement each other's language specialisations. We created the subtitles from scratch and translated directly from the audio, but also had access to both the Danish and English subtitles for reference.
If you want to see this unique blend of artful narrative and climate action at its Swiss premiere:
The film with our German subtitles can be viewed at the film festival "Filme für die Erde" between 17 and 25 September 2026, at various locations across Switzerland. You can find the precise locations and dates on the fesitval's website:
