Pivot Subtitling and Quality
Pivot subtitling (indirect translation in subtitling) is a widely used, yet under-researched practice. With my master's thesis, I aimed to help fill the research gap by investigating the impact of pivot subtitling on translation quality. I found that, while English as a pivot language can affect quality in certain aspects, it is not an all-decisive factor; rather, it is one of many factors to be considered strategically in interlingual subtitling.
I was granted the Slator Award 2026 for my master's thesis, in recognition of my thorough background research and comprehensive results. The thesis is featured in ZHAW's Graduate Papers in Applied Linguistics:
